Walking around, aisle to aisle. Looking for those special things. Spending so much money it makes me sick to my stomach. Can you tell what I did today?
Yep, catching up to that time of the year, Christmas shopping. Wow, I do this every year, and it makes me ill. Why oh why do I do it? I will tell you.
I have 7 little angels, ok that's an exaggeration sometimes but anyway, they count on Santa. Santa has tons of work to do, yet somehow I feel the holiday depression and exhaustion. I feel that crunch, and wonder, why oh why do we do this every year.
It's a tradition for the adults to stay up super late on Christmas eve and make sure Santa gets things taken care of. (Plus the kids are afraid, cause our chimney is blocked, and how would he get in?) So we have to open the door for him too. So we do all of that, ad then fall asleep.
After about 2 hours, if that, of sleep, we hear, He Came, He Really Came! As if there may have been some doubt from some of the children about how good they had been. Then BAM! We get jumped on, covers ripped off, and next thing you know everyone is in the livingroom. The kids, wide awake stairing at the tree full of next years garbage. The adults, trying to stay awake downing coffee, pop, and anything with caffine in it.
Then the part we all wait for.... "Is it time yet?" Then the boys finally get told, ok, go ahead! Someone passes out presents, and eyes are so wide, and everyone is so excited. For being so cold, waiting for the house to heat up, suddenly you feel warm, and you see your children getting all the things they want and deserve, and you have had to tell them no about several times throughout the year, now they have it in their hands. Thrilled, asking questions like, How did Santa know I wanted this? It wasn't even on my list!"
Suddenly all the money that was just spent, all the sleep that you didn't get is ok.
Then to top it off, you realize hubs is gonna play one of the new games with the kids, so they all gather around him, and you make sure supper stuff gets going, then you go down for a nap, and viola! There is why we do this!
